WESTFORD — The League of Women Voters previewed Westford's 10-article Special Town Meeting warrant ahead of the October 26 vote at Westford Academy. Finance Committee member Dennis Galvin and co-sponsor Anthony DeLeo presented a citizen's petition to cut the Community Preservation Act surcharge from 3 percent to 2 percent, freeing $900,000 for a possible tax-neutral override into the general fund, which five town boards voted unanimously or near-unanimously to oppose, including the Community Preservation Committee, 9-0. Galvin cited a projected $3.1 million fiscal 2028 deficit and a $758,000 jump in library debt service, saying "citizens should have a chance to opine on that." Other articles included new zoning rules for small-scale solar and battery storage, a specialized energy code tied to $1.15 million in potential state grants, $260,531 in fire department funding, and a sewer easement for a 35-unit senior housing project that will also house the Westford Food Pantry.
No votes were taken at the preview session itself.
