Lowell Road intersection to become four-way stop Nov. 12
Westford and MassDOT will convert the Lowell Road intersection at Brookside Road/Chamberlain Road from a two-way to a four-way stop on Nov. 12 after a crash-history evaluation. Drivers should expect new signs, pavement markings and temporary warning boards.
The Town of Westford, working with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, announced Oct. 28 that the intersection of Lowell Road at Brookside Road/Chamberlain Road will be converted from a two-way stop to a four-way stop.
The town said the change is being made to improve safety after a MassDOT evaluation found the intersection's crash history meets the federal warrant for all-way stop control.
The conversion is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 12. Ahead of that date, portable message boards will be placed near the intersection to alert drivers to the coming change.
As part of the work, new stop signs and stop-ahead warning signs will be installed on all approaches, and new stop-bar pavement markings will be added. Temporary changeable message signs and "new traffic pattern ahead" signs will also be in place to notify drivers.
The town is encouraging all motorists to use caution and allow extra time when traveling through the intersection as drivers adjust to the new traffic control.
