Westford School Building Committee Advances Seven Options, Drops Robinson and Day School Configurations
Other Committee · Meeting of July 14, 2026
Westford's Robinson School Building Committee voted unanimously to advance seven site and enrollment configurations into the next design phase, eliminating Robinson and Day School options on redistricting and site grounds. The committee, meeting July 14, approved a $133,737.30 invoice from the project team and confirmed seven options: Robinson 470 add-renovation, Robinson 470 new construction, Abbott 705 add-renovation, Abbott 705 new construction, Abbott 1065 add-renovation, Abbott 1065 new construction, and Farmer Way 705 new construction. Cost consultant Brian presented reconciled order-of-magnitude estimates from firms PM and C and Fogarty, placing 705-enrollment new construction options in a range of roughly $152 million to $170 million, with add-renovation options running higher due to phasing, logistics, and code-trigger costs at Abbott.
A key constraint noted: the MSBA will reimburse the 1065-enrollment option only at the 705-enrollment reimbursement level, reducing the effective local reimbursement rate substantially. Committee member Jeff cited a prior Tecton Townwide Facilities Report estimating a standalone Abbott renovation at $47 million, arguing the Abbott add-renovation option must be evaluated against that future cost to the town regardless. The committee meets July 21 at 7 p.m. at the Millennium building to share PDP work with the Select Board, School Committee, and Finance Committee, and to vote on authorizing submission of the Preliminary Design Program report to the MSBA by August 5.
