Westford's Finance Committee voted 5-0 to recommend five Special Town Meeting warrant articles, including a $1.79 million PFAS settlement and $220,000 in fire and school capital spending. Chaired by Kristina Greene, the panel backed $268,531 plus $198,000 in ambulance-enterprise funds to complete the IAFF fire contract, $120,000 for failing fire dispatch equipment Fire Chief Dennehy called a "life safety risk," and $100,000 to replace a nonfunctioning 58-year-old Robinson School generator. It also recommended a $1.79 million PFAS settlement appropriation, 10 percent of which, about $179,000, will fund private well testing and $700 rebates for roughly 250 households.
The committee took no position on Clerk Dennis Galvin's personal petition to cut the Community Preservation Act surcharge from 3 percent to 2 percent, which would return $900,000 to taxpayers but cost about $190,000 in annual state aid; a resident identified as Bob said the Community Preservation Committee, Historical Commission and Conservation Commission all voted unanimously against it.
