Ledge Road Blasting Permitted Friday; COA Summer Newsletter Released

DATELINE — WESTFORD

Residents near Ledge Road should expect noise and vibration Friday as a permitted blasting operation gets underway, while the Council on Aging has released its summer programming guide for July and August.

TOWN HALL

The Westford Water Department's Stage III outdoor water restrictions remain in effect, and two fresh items rounded out the town's news feed Thursday evening. A blasting notice posted at 8:42 p.m. alerts neighbors that controlled blasting will take place at Ledge Road on Friday, June 26, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents in the area can expect noise, ground vibration, and possible dust during that window. The full notice is available at the town's civic alerts page (https://www.westfordma.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?aid=2695).

Separately, the Council on Aging's July and August 2026 newsletter is now available online, giving seniors and their families a head start on planning summer programs and services. The newsletter can be found through the town website at https://www.westfordma.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?aid=2692.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

J.V. Fletcher Library — currently operating out of its temporary location at 515 Groton Road while the Main Street building undergoes a major renovation and expansion — has a full calendar of summer events lined up. The library's 2026 Summer Reading Program, themed "Plant a Seed, Read!," is open to all ages. Upcoming programs include a Monday Mystery Book Club on June 29 at the Roudenbush Community Center, a ZMakesBeads beading program for children and teens on June 30, and a Craft Lounge session for tweens and teens on July 1.

Looking a bit further ahead, the library is partnering with Good Pickin' Farm at 5 Gould Road for a "Farm on the Go" outing on Wednesday, July 8, from 10 a.m. to noon — a chance for families to celebrate summer with a hands-on farm visit. A Homesteading Workshop focused on garden planning and seed starting is scheduled for Thursday, July 23, from 6 to 8 p.m., also at Good Pickin' Farm. The library will be closed Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4, in observance of the holiday.

ELSEWHERE IN THE NEWS

Westford Patch published two items in the current coverage window with local relevance. The most recent, headlined "🌱 Patch AM: How Westford's Abby Hennessy stacked up against the nation's best milers," spotlights a Westford athlete's performance at a national-level track competition, per Westford Patch (read it at https://patch.com/massachusetts/westford).

An earlier edition, "🌱 Patch AM: How Westford's Abby Hennessy shined on the national track stage," also covered Hennessy's performance in what appears to be a multi-day look at the same story from Patch's morning newsletter team (read it at https://patch.com/massachusetts/westford).

Patch also ran a statewide item: "Federal Gas Tax Suspension Considered: Here's How Much MA Drivers Would Save," reporting that pressure on fuel prices tied to disruptions in oil markets has prompted discussion of a federal gas tax pause that could affect Massachusetts motorists, per Patch (read it at https://patch.com/massachusetts/westford).

No new coverage from MetroWest Daily News or The Boston Globe in this cycle.
