WESTFORD — The Westford School Committee adopted an interim state-mandated school safety policy and reviewed a fiscal year 2026 budget that closed with no deficit despite heavy overspending. The committee voted unanimously to adopt the MASC/DESE "Protect Policy Act" model policy on an interim basis, with formal first reading set for September 22. Director of Finance Jenny Lin reported the $69,458,999 adjusted budget was fully spent, with overages of $390,000 in transportation-related services, $332,000 in operations and maintenance, and $264,000 in special education tuition, partly offset by a $70,427 town reserve transfer.
The food service revolving fund posted its first negative cash flow, $169,000, prompting dessert and milk price increases, while athletic fees will rise $25 for fiscal year 2027. The committee also continued a human resources job description item to September 8 and heard an update that the Robinson School Building Committee has narrowed 18 building options to seven ahead of a planned fall 2027 town vote.
