Community garden approaches full capacity; apiary reports hive losses

Westford community garden reaches 96 percent occupancy in March meeting. The Agricultural Commission heard reports that only four plots remain available, with leadership from Pooja Kapoor, Laura Thomae, and Barath Shanker driving strong community interest. The commission agreed to have the Community Garden Coordinators submit an update to the Town Manager's Newsletter.
Meanwhile, the Westford Community Beekeepers Committee reported that the apiary lost three of six hives to Varroa and Tracheal mites, though all surviving hives had been treated with Oxalic acid strips in the fall. The commission also discussed potential expansion plans including a Food Forest Concept, though such projects would be deferred until next year.
