Library Panel Approves $27,900 Abutter Fence
Town Board · Meeting of September 14, 2026
Westford library building panel approves $27,900 fence to settle years-long dispute with Main Street neighbor. The joint Permanent Town Building Committee and Library Board of Trustees voted 10-0-1 for the 195-foot cedar stockade fence and landscaping, with Library Director Ellen Rainville warning that rejecting the deal risked the town "being accused of bargaining in bad faith." The board separately approved $1,930,407.33 in project warrants, 11-0, and heard the contingency budget is now 21.84 percent spent. Staff also flagged unsuitable soil found near a new retaining wall that is expected to trigger a change order of more than $30,000 next month.
Library officials reported the Friends group has raised $1.209 million toward its $1.3 million fundraising pledge, and that state Sen. John Cronin will visit Friday to present a $50,000 legislative earmark check.
