WESTFORD — Recycling Commission unanimously approves discretionary fee reductions for hazardous household waste. Chair George Haines reported that HHW demand has increased 67 percent over two years, from 120 to 200 residents annually, while disposal costs from Clean Harbor Environmental Service have risen 30 percent in 2024 and 3 percent more this year. The commission postponed broader fee restructuring recommendations pending additional data but authorized discretionary rate reductions for residents expressing inability to pay standard rates.
Haines also confirmed that the Operations Analyst position approved at Town Hall Meeting will support the pay-as-you-throw implementation rollout scheduled for early July 2026.
