Westford Select Board seats 10-member search committee after 17 residents apply to help pick the next town manager. Board members restructured the panel on the fly, dropping their own representation from two seats to one and expanding at-large seats from seven to 10, then selected Jared Bromberg, Angela Harkness, Scott Hazelton, Andrea Turner Sweet, Lindsay Richard, Diane Wood, Nancy Cook, Wendy Gloyd, Dan Cannon and James Miller by ranked ballot. Separately, the board voted unanimously to sponsor an October 26 special town meeting article appropriating nearly $1.8 million in 3M and DuPont PFAS settlement funds, split 90-10 between the water department and a proposed $700 rebate program for roughly 250 private well owners.
Water Superintendent Mark Warren said the water department "serves approximately 75 percent of the town, and 100 percent of that system is affected by PFAS contamination." The board deferred a decision on sponsoring a specialized energy code article, tied to a Dec. 31 deadline for $1 million in state Climate Leader Community grants, to its September 22 meeting.
