WESTFORD — The Westford Conservation Commission voted 5-1 to issue an amended order of conditions letting New England Power Company continue transmission line maintenance, with Jim Gozzo opposed. BSC Group's Alison Milliman told the commission "there's really no room" for the utility "to be at the whim" of commission permission for pre-scheduled outage work, offering two-month look-ahead reports instead. The commission also continued three public hearings to July 8, approved minor modifications at 17 Forrest Road and 60 Pleasant Street, and issued a certificate of compliance for a Calista Terrace retaining wall.
During a presentation on the draft Littleton Road Pedestrian Plan, member Eric Fahle questioned whether MBTA Communities Act housing would actually get residents onto transit, while Jim Gozzo said trails shown in the plan are impassable "from December till March." Commissioners also opened, without resolving, whether to permit scattering of cremated remains on town conservation land, with Salem noting the Bridge of Flowers in Shelburne Falls bans the practice over soil impacts.
