WESTFORD — The Westford Select Board voted to let town counsel start negotiating a development agreement for the town's first proposed billboard. The $1.5 million, 30-year deal at 5 Makepeace Road, pitched by American Outdoor Advertising's Stephen Ross and attorney Melissa Robbins, still needs separate Zoning Board of Appeals approval. Member Noel Donovan said she worried it would "change the character of the town." Separately, the board postponed the Acton Road culvert replacement to summer 2027 after residents, including Doug Burns with a 189-signature petition, objected that the Old Lowell Road detour was unsafe for truck traffic.
The board unanimously approved an all-way stop at Lowell Road, Chamberlain Road and Brookside Road after data showed nine crashes in three years, and named Assistant Town Manager Mike Edward interim town manager effective October 1.
