Select Board Hears Strong Employee Opposition to Health Insurance Changes
Select Board · Meeting of July 23, 2026
Westford Select Board heard strong employee and retiree opposition to health insurance changes. At a July 23 listening session, workers and retirees pushed back against a proposed shift from Blue Cross and Blue Shield to the General Insurance Group, citing concerns about cost savings, a three-year lock-in, and mental health coverage adequacy. Town Manager Kristen Las presented findings from the Budget Task Force, which identified health insurance as a major budget challenge.
The town's broker HUB determined mid-year plan adjustments can begin after November 1. The Health Insurance Trust will review alternative plans, with the next meeting set for July 30 on Zoom.
