Tri-Board reviews health insurance options; no decisions made

Westford tri-board hears health insurance consultant present four options including GIC membership. Lockton Insurance found the town's self-insured plan financially healthy but presented the Group Insurance Commission as offering approximately $3.6 million in aggregate savings, including $1.3 million in employee premium reductions, balanced against reduced provider access and less local control. Board members noted that larger savings typically increase out-of-pocket costs and emphasized the need for further analysis and public education before any decision.
In a separate vote, the Finance Committee unanimously approved a $70,427 transfer from reserves to cover school snow and ice operations overages driven by severe winter weather.
