Westford Select Board Reorganizes, Approves $406,600 in Budget Transfers at May Meeting

WESTFORD — May 11, 2026 — Westford Select Board reorganizes under new chair Chris Barrett and approves nearly $406,600 in end-of-year budget transfers. At the May 11 meeting at Town Hall, Barrett was elected chair 5-0, replacing outgoing chair Tom Clay, with Sean Kelly moving to vice chair and Noelle Donovan named clerk of the board — all three votes unanimous. In a joint session with the Finance Committee, both boards approved a $396,899 transfer from Debt Service and Workers Compensation accounts to the Fire Department's Personal Services account to fund a newly reached IAFF contract settlement covering fiscal years 2025 and 2026, and a $9,700 transfer returning police cruiser auction proceeds to the Police Expense account; Finance Director Dan O'Donnell warned that additional Fire Department funding will be needed at the October Special Town Meeting, which the board set for October 26. The board also voted 5-0 to send a letter of support for Redgate's application to the MassDevelopment Underutilized Property Program, seeking up to $1 million to restore the historic house at the former Westford Regency site at 219 Littleton Road, part of a proposed 300-unit multi-family redevelopment; during public comment, resident Wendy Gloyd raised a concern that the Commission on Disability had hoped all proposed loft units in the development would include elevator lifts from day one rather than on request.
