Westford Select Board Endorses Open Space Plan, Forms East Boston Camps Working Group

WESTFORD — May 27, 2026 — Westford Select Board authorizes East Boston Camps working group and adopts new code of conduct at wide-ranging May 27 meeting. The board voted unanimously to authorize Town Manager Kristen Faber to form a working group to assess building stabilization needs at the Stony Brook Conservation Area and East Boston Camps, amending the motion on the floor to include the property's conservation restriction holder after resident Andrea Perrin-Sweet, president of the Westford Land Preservation Foundation, warned that any improvements must comply with the CR and that the holder has ultimate authority over permissible uses. Staff described the camp's buildings as potentially unable to survive another winter without investment and said the current lease arrangement with TeamWorks may be in its final viable year. The board also voted unanimously to adopt a new board and committee code of conduct, incorporate it into the board and committee handbook, and endorse the town's updated Open Space and Recreation Plan — which includes seven goals and 40 action items — for submission to the state. On the JB Fletcher Library reconstruction, owner's project manager Jennifer McGrory of CHA Solutions reported the project remains within its roughly $32.5 million budget but that the public opening has shifted from January 2027 to late March 2027 due to unforeseen structural deficiencies. The town's pay-as-you-throw cart delivery is set for June 8 and bags are targeted to hit store shelves by June 24; Market Basket has committed as a vendor, with additional retailers still being confirmed.
